IOM’s cash-based interventions (CBI) target the most socio-economically vulnerable households among newly displaced, migrant and host community members.

These interventions allow people to meet their critical needs while reducing reliance on negative coping strategies.

As co-lead of the Rapid Response Mechanism sector in Yemen, IOM coordinates and provides first-line multi-purpose cash assistance to individuals who are newly displaced, affected by disaster or stranded due to the conflict.

IOM plays a lead role in improving CBI across Yemen by co-leading the Cash Consortium of Yemen through which cash assistance is coordinated. Its principal aim is to ensure that organizations respond to the most urgent gaps and use harmonized targeting and monitoring tools, making aid more effective.

In 2022, IOM reached more than 177,000 people in Yemen with cash-based assistance.
